David was leading the group of protesters who were demonstrating against what they term as “slow distribution of food by government.”

They were intercepted by the police along Salaama road in Makindye and were quickly bundled onto the back of a police pickup truck before they were hurriedly whisked away.

He earned the nickname ‘strike machine’ because of his rigorous participation in protests.

David led a strike against Makerere’s 15% cumulative tuition increment last year and he was among several students that were suspended by the institution.

He was brutally arrested during that strike and the images of the arrest shook the nation.

David also received a donation of proceeds from a fundraising ceremony held at Bard College in New York, USA last year in recognition of his contribution to the conversation about affordable tertiary education in Uganda.
