Ugandan universities dominate African inter-university rugby 7s tournament

Ugandan universities put up exciting and dominant performances at the first ever Kings of African University rugby 7s championships held at the Makerere University rugby grounds, popularly known as the ‘Graveyard’. The two-day tournament attracted universities from Uganda, Kenya, Botswana and South Africa.

Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi was the best placed Ugandan institution, despite losing out to eventual winners University of Johannesburg in an entertaining final. Nkozi university was popular for their aggressive and energetic approach to the game, often playing with a high tempo and tackling hard, which left many fans excited despite an afternoon downpour that left the pitch slightly wet. They came from 12 points down to claim a 17 – 12 victory over Kenyatta University in the quarter finals.
