UCU Guild President declares strike
For some time now, students at the Mukono based Uganda Christian University have been complaining about the university’s E-learning system which is grappling with a multitude of issues that the administration has not yet solved.
Student leaders have on several occasions approached the administration asking them to scrutinize the system which was making the online classes meaningless.
According to our sources, some of the students still can’t access classes even after clearing the required tuition which has left them confused.
Worse still, when these students call into the help lines provided by the university for inquires, they either get no help or their calls ain’t answered.
Various students have testified that the system has a lot of issues that affect not just the students but also the lecturers.
Consequently, this forced the Guild President Mr. Kadaga Timothy to call for a meeting with all student leaders where they agreed on a number of things.
The biggest news from the meeting was the decision to close the guild offices without any work being conducted which they referred to as a silent strike not until the university can give feedback on the issues they put forward.
H.E Timothy Kadaga noted that it makes no sense to elect leaders whose opinions can’t even be regarded in the decisions made by the administration.
The Guild President further informed the Dean of Students Affairs (DOSA) who represented the administration in the meeting that they weren’t happy with whatever is going on.
However, it has been noted that the Electoral Commission is not part of the strike and therefore it’s activities will go ahead as planned.
We shall keep you posted on the development of the story.
