Numerous lectures at the Ivory Tower were canceled as students and staff kept away from the university in fear of protests over the 15% cumulative tuition increment. The rainy morning and strict police checks at the gates further dampened the mood and kept students away from class. Furthermore, some lecture rooms remained closed forcing students to return home.

The university management has summoned the guild leadership to a meeting where they are expected to interface and dialogue over the matter in a bid to solve the stand-off amicably. The guild leadership however set conditions that ought to be made prior to the start of negotiations.

However, for now, the streets of Makerere University remain rather quiet, with a ghost town atmosphere, an opposite scenario to the previous rowdy week. We await developments of the meeting and shall keep you informed.
