Student commits suicide after boyfriend of four months is arrested
Residents of Ndolo parish in Kyotera district are in shock after a 16-year-old girl committed suicide in protest following the arrest of her boyfriend.
Reports indicate that the girl jumped into River Kyatakagwa on Monday evening.
Police in conjunction with residents has mounted a search for her body.
According to sources, the deceased was displeased by the fact that her parents didn’t appreciate the relationship with her 25-year-old boyfriend.
Her parents warned her against continuing the affair with the boda boda rider, given that she was a minor who should have prioritised her studies instead.
According to Richard Kalanzi, the Kabira LC III chairperson, her parents hired informants who tracked down the man and found him having sex with the teenager in the bush.
Thereafter, he was arrested and detained.
The arrest hurt the girl so much, and she warned her family that she would hurt herself if her lover wasn’t released.
The girl’s pleas fell on deaf ears and she sadly chose to end her life.
The couple had been together for around four months.
Police have vowed to conduct comprehensive investigations to get to the bottom of the matter.
