Ministry of Education warns schools against charging fees for online learning
The Ministry of Education has vehemently warned schools that have adopted E-learning not to charge exorbitant fees for learners to access the service.
In a letter dated 7th July 2020, The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Alex Kakooza stated that government fully supports online learning, however, stakeholders are concerned that parents are being asked to pay for the classes.
“This has meant that a sizeable number of learners, whose parents are unable or unwilling to pay these high charges, are being left out,” wrote Kakooza in part.
Mr. Kakooza also appealed to the schools to be lenient with those learners pursuing international programs.
“The school management body should urgently engage parents of learners of the international curriculum to discuss and come to an agreed position on reasonable fees for effective online learning to take place,” Kakooza added.
