Makerere’s Dr. Kambugu named on UN 2021 Food Systems Summit Scientific Group

Dr. Andrew Kambugu, Executive Director, Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), Makerere University has been named as one of the 29 Members of the United Nations (UN) 2021 Food Systems Summit’s Scientific Group.

The announcement was made by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres on 29th June 2020.

The Scientific Group will be chaired by Dr. Joachim von Braun, Bonn University, ZEF, Germany and will “bear the foremost scientific evidence, and help expand the base of shared knowledge about experiences, approaches, and tools for driving sustainable food systems.”

According to the Secretary General’s announcement, the 2021 Summit will raise global awareness to understand the food systems challenges we must solve, build a global conversation on the way in which we produce, process, and consume food, and galvanize global actions and commitments to change our food systems to provide safe, nutritious food for all within our planetary boundaries.
