Makerere swimming pool victim was practicing a complex swimming stunt
The death of Uwimpuhwe James has left numerous people concerned about how an expert of the pool could tragically lose their life. It has been revealed that the incident occurred as James tried to perform and under-water swimming stunt referred to as endurance swimming. Athletes attempt to swim the entire length of the pool under water and in a single breath, thus need not come up for oxygen.
However, this requires extreme skill, the right breath control, efficiency, and optimum water temperatures. The incident occurred around sunset, in fairly cool water temperatures which can affect such an attempt. The deceased was rescued by swimmers on site, given emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation and rushed to a medical facility but unfortunately did not make it. May his soul Rest in Peace.
