Makerere University officially joins UNAI
Another dawn has come to view as a leading University in sub-Saharan Africa has fully initiated its partnership with the United nations through the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI).
As an initiative mandated by the United Nations, General Assembly, UNAI aligns institutions of higher education with the United Nations in supporting and contributing, through research and education, to the realization of the Organization’s goals and mandates. What binds these institutions and the United Nations together in UNAI is a shared culture of intellectual social responsibility.
On 11th September,2019 Makerere University was officially welcomed as a member of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) following a successful application process. “We have handed over the membership certificate and handbook to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe” said H.E. Papa Were Salim, 84th Guild President of Makerere University.
A date to launch this membership will be communicated very soon and the United Nations Resident Coordinator to Uganda will preside over the historical function. “Such partnerships will be very instrumental in the global positioning of Makerere University” added Silver Walugembe, Director Hult Prize Makerere University.
At the launch, both students and staff will be made aware of the various opportunities this membership comes with.
