The institution has set a timeline of next week within which all the government-sponsored students will have received their money.

This move comes a few days after students threatened to go on strike following the delayed payment of the balance of their allowances.

According to reports, some government-sponsored students received half of their allowances prior to the nationwide closure of learning institutions in March 2020.

Upon resumption of studies in October 2020 the balance of the allowances was reportedly sent, but only a few students received the remaining half of the funds.

Government-sponsored students at Makerere University receive a semester allowance ranging from 540,000 to 840,000 shillings for meals and accommodation. These students also receive a full-tuition and functional fees waiver for the entire period of their study programs.
