Makerere launches Shs. 2.9Bn research and teaching centre
Makerere University has launched a Centre of Excellence for Research, Teaching and Learning (CERTL) at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS).
The 2.9 billion shillings centre established at the CHUSS is the first of its kind in East and Central Africa, and Andrew Mellon Foundation in New York, United States of America funded the project.
CERTL is to equip and revitalize the college graduate teaching fellows and graduate students at the university with skills in research, teaching and learning.
CERTL is also going to be used in researching how to improve learning and teaching activities in the higher education sector.
It will also ensure that students in the humanities, arts and humanistic social sciences disciplines and other programs are properly grounded in debates, methodologies and writing in their respective disciplines.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs Makerere University, Prof Umar Kakumba said the CERTL is going to generate knowledge, conduct research, dissemination and knowledge application.
