Makerere cleared to resume admission at its Dentistry School

The Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioner Council has cleared the university to resume admission for students at the College after meeting the minimum requirements, according to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe.

Earlier this year, a team from East African Community Secretariat carried out an inspection aimed at improving services in the seven universities which teach medical and dental courses in Uganda.

After the inspection, the team recommended the closure of the Makerere University Department of Dentistry at the Mulago based College of Health Sciences.

The Uganda Christian University’s medical school suffered the same fate.

However, Mbarara University of Science and Technology and Kampala International University passed the inspection.

This inspection focused on staffing and infrastructure. The team faulted Makerere University for not meeting the 1:4 staff to student ratio and poor infrastructure and it recommended its closure and distribution of the already admitted students to the cleared University.
