Makerere appoints Dr. Josephine Nabukenya as new acting Deputy VC Finance

Dr. Josephine Nabukenya has been appointed acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Makerere University, in charge of Finance and Administration, for a period of one year; until a substantive Deputy is appointed.

Nabukenya was appointed this week by the Chancellor Prof. Ezra Suruma; to deputise Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe.

Prof. Suruma’s instructions are grounded in powers vested in him under Section 56(1) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended).

Her appointment follows the resignation of Dr. William Bazeyo; who is a subject of inquiry over lack of credible qualifications to occupy the position.

Nabukenya will serve alongside Assoc. Prof. Umar Kakumba, who is also a Deputy Vice-Chancellor, in charge of Academics.

Her PhD is in Information Systems from Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Her research focuses on IS in the areas of: Analysis & Modeling of Data /Information Flow; Impact Evaluations; Strategic Information Management; Enterprise Architecture and Collaboration Engineering.

Before joining Makerere University in 2002, she worked with the ministry of health as a Senior Information Scientist and conceptualized the automation of the Resource Centre for electronic data storage and retrieval; and actively participated in the HMIS and data warehouse evolution.
