The police detention of Musiri David, an activist from Makerere University has stretched into the third day according to close friends.

Musiri was arrested for peacefully demonstrating against the Electoral Commission’s failure to respond to his application to see the nomination documents of NRM’s presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni.

He is currently detained at Jinja Road Police Station.
According to Stella Nyanzi, the police failed to produce him in court in addition to denying him police bond.
“The police failed to produce him in court within the legal 48-hour period. The police (also) refused to release him on police bond but prefer to illegally hold him in congested cells during this raging COVID19 pandemic,” the Kampala Woman MP candidate mentioned.
Musiri David previously contested and lost the Makerere University Guild Presidential election in 2019.

He earned the nickname ‘strike machine’ because of his rigorous participation in protests.

David led a strike against Makerere’s 15% cumulative tuition increment last year and he was among several students that were suspended by the institution.
