MAK “Metallic Suitcase” Fresher Says He Has No Clothes and Beddings, First in Family to Attend University
After the story of the Makerere University Fresher Henry Ssubi Kiyimba who reported to university hall with a metallic suitcase and an ousofia bag broke the internet, well wishers from all corners of Uganda have come out to help give a hand and make the student comfortable in his stay at the oldest university in the country.
Kiyimba, 20, hails from Kamengo in a family of 8 and they are all supported by their mother. He attended St. Bruno’s Serunkuma SS Goli where he offered a PEM/ICT and scored 17 points (CBA).
He is the first in their family to attend university education and initially wanted to study Engineering but because he couldn’t attain government sponsorship for his preferred course, he opted for Science in Education. Ssubi missed Engineering government sponsorship by 2 points.
Campus Cam has also learnt that he has an oustanding balance at his former school of UGX 2M which he didn’t clear and the school confiscated his pass slip. On his first trip to Kampala, Ssubi travelled with no transport money and only got short lifts and walked some distances.
On top of all that, he opened up to well wishers and disclosed that he reported with an empty metallic case, has no clothes and beddings, only a 2″ mattress and no stationery to kick-start his university journey.
Well wishers including BBC NewsDay Presenter Alan Kasujja have come out to express willingness to help him out and they are at the moment rallying up financial assistance to come to his rescue.
