Kyambogo student arrested at lover’s hostel and sent behind bars for faking kidnap
Police in Lira district are detaining a first year student of Kyambogo University over allegations of faking her own kidnap
The arrested, Teddy Twinomashiko who is 18 years old was picked from an alleged lover’s place in Lira University. The alleged 21 year old lover has been identified as Hasad Muyanja is a third year student of Community Psychology at Lira University.
From close sources, Twinomashiko sent several text messages to her parents back home claiming to have been kidnapped. It is said that she continously asked for ransom to be released but warned them never to call on her phone or report to authorities.
This however raised concern and police detectives had to intervene thereby tracking her phone to be at Lira University where she was arrested. “She has been sending several threatening text messages to her parents, warning them to stop calling her phone number or else they get ready to receive her body,” the North Kyoga regional police CID boss, ASP Joseph Mugalya told this reporter on Sunday.
“We, therefore, launched our investigation and indeed we tracked her phone and discovered that she was with her boyfriend at a hostel at Lira University,” he added.
The suspects will be transfered to Kirinya Police where a case of Kidnap had been registered under file CRB 140/2019
