Kabale University completes renovation of Kabale Hospital ICU unit

The administration of Kabale University has revealed that it has completed the renovation of the ICU unit at the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital.

The management yesterday conducted an inspection of the facility and appreciated the work done.

“The Contractor. Kab Management team led by Prof. Joy C. Kwesiga the Vice-Chancellor and the Hospital Director went for a joint inspection of the ICU in preparation to Officially Handover the facility to the Hospital,” read a statement from Kabale University.

The university recently set aside a budget of 72 million shillings for the work aimed at building the hospital’s capacity in handling the coronavirus pandemic.

The Parliamentary health committee visited the hospital last month and found that the ICU lacked equipment, with only four beds, un-functional toilets, damaged floor, and running water in the facility.

Kabale University has joined the list of academic institutions that have contributed to the coronavirus fight in Uganda. King Ceasor university made a Shs. 100 million contribution, Mbarara university donated money to Mbarara hospital, and Makerere University donated food and sanitizers worth Shs. 85 million.
