John Katumba runs and hides in a market while fleeing police arrest
Residents of Iganga town were yesterday treated to some drama after presidential candidate John Katumba jumped out of his car and fled to hide in a market after police attempted to arrest him.
Katumba who was leading a procession on Iganga main street was intercepted by police who blocked his vehicle, something which prompted him to escape in fear of arrest, leaving police and his electoral commission guards to follow in hot pursuit.
Police led by Kenneth Muheirwe, the Iganga district police commander (DPC), finally managed to arrest Katumba before escorting him out of Iganga.
Katumba’s woes continued in Jinja town where he again jumped out of his vehicle but was swiftly arrested by the in-charge of the Jinja city police station, Moses Kamomo, who directed him to return to his car.
Kamomo argued that Katumba was not supposed to hold campaigns in Jinja on that day.
Katumba was forced out of Jinja town through the Nile Bridge and cautioned to follow his campaign schedules.
