“I started People Power with Bobi Wine, Nubian Li and Chairman Nyanzi” – Former MAK Guild President Roy Ssemboga

Former Makerere University Guild President Roy Ssemboga recently intimated to one of our reporters during an exclusive interview that he is one of the founders of the People Power pressure group that is affiliated to the National Unity Platform (NUP).

The candidate for the Kawempe South constituency in the forthcoming parliamentary elections stated that he was one of the brains that laid the foundation and built the first structures of the movement that has now a force to reckon with.

“By the time I left, it was being run by basically four people: Me, Nubian Lee, Bobi, and Chairman Nyanzi. Joel Ssenyonyi (NUP spokesperson) was still with NTV, he wouldn’t come out; Lewis Rubongoya (Secretary-general of NUP) was still in government”, he stated.

Roy Ssemboga mentioned that the initial phase of building the party was very rigorous and required 24-hour commitment.

He often slept for only two hours a night while identifying coordinators across the country, and doing everything to make sure that People Power is where it is.

He was recently denied the flagbearer ticket in the Kawempe South parliamentary race, however, this hasn’t deterred his passion for People Power.

“Yeah. Actually, I think in 2021, I will go back because now the movement is solid,” Roy further stated.
