Former two-time Makerere Guild aspirant eyeing Eastern region Youth MP seat

Campus Cam has learned that Taliwaku Andrew Julian, a young and ambitous political figure who contested and lost the race for the highly coveted Guild president position at Makerere University is now considering a move to parliament.

According to reports, the 29 year old Taliwaku, popularly known as ‘Vuvuzela’ is planning to contest for the Eastern Region Youth Member of Parliament position in the 2021 elections.

Taliwaku is an NRM cadre and he run on the party ticket in 2019 in the guild presidential election at Makerere University that was won by Julius Kateregga. Kateregga garnered 3,922 votes beating other 10 candidates in the race. His closest rival Joshua William Mukisa obtained 3,365 votes while Andrew Julian Taliwaku got 1,465 votes.

He also lost to Papa Were Salim in the 2018 edition of the same race.

Taliwaku revealed that the NRM party officials asked him to run for the position back in 2012, however, he chose to pursue a second Bachelor’s degree in Law which he started in 2016.

He is a seasoned political figure at the Ivory Tower and is very active in the Basoga Nsete cultural group. Taliwaku also served as the chairman of Mitchell Hall in Makerere University as he pursued his first Bachelor’s degree.

The NRM ticket for the Eatern Region Youth MP race is also being sought after by Mr Odoi Robert, the NIRA district representative for Bukedi district, Mrs Sarah Mpongo Mulongo, a daughter to Hon. Mpongo , a Member of Parliament from Namutumba District, Mr Twallah Fadhil, the coordinator in Elgon region under the office of the NRM chairman from Sebei among others.
