Former IUIU Rector Dr. Sengendo handsover
The outgoing Rector of the Islamic University In Uganda (IUIU) Dr. Ahmed Kawesa Sengendo last week handed over to Professor Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda.
Professor Gyagenda previously served as IUIU’s Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Sengendo departed IUIU after 33 years of service after following his appointment to the OIC Secretariate as the Assistant General Secretary of Economic Affairs.
His valediction ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the former Bamasaba cultural head (Umukukha) Sir Bob Mushikor, the Mbale City Mayor his lordship Mafabi Mutwalib Zandia, the RDC, and the Eastern Regional Khadhi Dr. Ahmed Wandega among others.
They commended him for transforming IUIU into one that has positively contributed to the development of the community.
While bidding farewell, Dr. Sengendo urged his successor to do much more than he had done.
“When I took over the leadership of Makerere University Muslim Students Association, I worked diligently to improve the association and I am very sure that as you are taking over the leadership of the Islamic University in Uganda, you will follow suit,” Dr. Sengendo mentioned.
