National Unity Platform Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulnayi, aka Bobi Wine, has promised to provide free reusable sanitary pads to school going girls if elected.

Hon. Kyagulanyi says that this will enhance the learning experience of the girl child.

He made the remarks while on the campaign trail in Rwampara, Ntungamo and Isingiro districts this week.

A baseline survey by Plan Uganda in 2018 shows that at least 18% of girls reported missing school because of menstruation.

During the 2016 election campaign, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni pledged to buy sanitary towels for girls in need.

However the First Lady, who is also the Minister of Education, recently told parliament the government didn’t have enough funding for the president’s initiative.

The 2012 Uganda Population Census showed that out of the 18 million women in the country, 24.5% were adolescents aged between 10-19 years.

The majority of them living in rural areas and unable to afford sanitary pads.
